The Asian University Presidents
Forum is a consequence of non-governmental cooperation among Asian
universities, evolving from the Non-governmental Collaborative Association
of Presidents of Chinese and Thai Institutions of Higher Learning
set up at Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand, in 2002. All 13
participating Chinese and Thai universities had agreed to organize
an annual meeting to be a venue where presidents of the member institutions
can meet and discuss matters concerning the promotion of international
academic collaborations as well as exchange of information and expertise.
Consequently, the Asian University
Presidents Forum 2003 was hosted by the Guangdong University of
Foreign Studies in Guangdong Province, People¡¯s Republic of China
during October 10-12, 2003. Forty universities from China, Chinese
Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Thailand, and
Vietnam participated in the forum.
During October 29-31, 2004, Shanghai
International Studies University hosted the Asian University Presidents
Forum 2004 under the theme ¡°Asian Universities, Reform Issues and
Presidents¡¯ Responsibilities.¡± Twenty-six universities from China,
Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taiwan, Thailand,
and Vietnam participated in the forum.
The arena of the Forum was expanded
when the Asian University Presidents Forum 2005 was hosted by Pai
Chai University in Daejon, Republic of Korea during October 7-9,
2005 under the theme ¡°Worldwide Strength and Development Strategies
of Asian Universities¡¯ Education System.¡± Over 200 participants
from 54 universities from Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Israel,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Chinese Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi
Arabia, and Vietnam attended the Forum and finally adopted the Forum
Constitution.
During November 16-18, 2006, Bangkok
University hosted the Asian University Presidents Forum 2006 under
the theme ¡°the Future of Asian Universities: Vision and Strategies
for Cooperation¡±. Around 100 delegates from different universities
of Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Chinese Hong Kong,
India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia,
Singapore, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the forum.
The Asian University Presidents
Forum 2007 was hosted by the Providence University, Taiwan, China
during November 14-17, 2007 under the theme of ¡°Service Study, University
Fund and Donation, International Communication¡±. Over 150 participants
from universities of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Israel, Japan,
Korea, Philippines, Chinese Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam attended
the forum.
